January 10th-January 22nd, 2019

view from our place

On January 10th,  we left for South Africa.  We got on the plane to London, it took 7 hours to get there. Next, we got on a plane to South Africa it took almost 11 hours! South Africa is 7 hours ahead of Ontario. We arrived on January 12th . We have been swimming, seeing Lili and Greg, playing top trumps, playing cribbage , getting use to the time change and doing work. We are doing school work. My mom is teaching us.  We have been doing math, reading writing and we are going to be working on a big social studies project about South Africa.   I miss my friends. #I miss you#. I have been to two of my favourite places, Monto Casino and Bounce.  Monto Casino is a casino with an arcade and Bounce is a trampoline place like x play but bigger . My friend, Spencer, gave me a "flat Spencer" to bring on our trip with us. He also made a "flat Nate" for himself. Spencer sometimes goes with us places.

Doing homework

Yesterday, we went to the Wonder Cave! It was awesome.  It’s a cave that was discovered in 1898. They think the cave is about 2.2 billion years old!  It was discovered by Italian miners.   First, we went down 87 stairs and then down a lift.(elevator) We were 60 meters below the earth surface  . Next, we learned about stalagmites and stalactites. They are pointy rock formations found in limestone caves. One points up and one points down.  A stalactite comes from the ceiling and stalagmite comes from the ground. Every 100 years the stalagmites grow 1cm! Then, we saw praying Mary that if you shine a light on it it looked like Mary praying on top of a rhino. After that, we saw  a 6,000 year old baboon fossil. Next, we saw a dried up lake.It has dried because of global warming. (Curse you, global warming) Next, we saw were they used to mine.  There was a mine cart, some limestone and some a tool to help them drill holes for the dynamite. Finally, we went back up the elevator and we got stuck on the elevator, but then the  generator turned on and we got up. Then we climbed up the 87 stairs.  It was hard because the the oxygen level was 4.1% lower, so it made it tricky to breathe.
